This Apple Betty recipe has been passed down in my grandmas family for generations, and is often served at our family gatherings. It is slightly different from Apple Crumble because it doesn't have oatmeal in the topping. Apple Brown Betty is delicious served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
In a small or medium size bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, and salt.
Add butter and using a pastry blender or two knives, cut mixture until it is the texture of coarse meal.
Peel, core and thinly slice apples. Put apple slices into a pie plate. Add lemon juice to apples and toss.
Put crumb topping on top of apples.
Bake for 50 minutes or till topping is golden and apples are bubbling and soft.
Let cool slightly, and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
